Five-year RI for former bank official

CHENNAI: A special court for Central Bureau of Investigation cases here convicted a former branch manager of Andhra Bank for causing wrongful loss to the bank. According to the prosecution, H. Krishnamurthy, of Andhra Bank, Triplicane Branch, had cleared cheques to the tune of Rs. 75.45 lakh issued by K. Ramesh, proprietor of Ramesh Cars, knowing well that there were insufficient funds in his current account.
The duo had entered into a criminal conspiracy to cheat the bank.
The Additional Special Judge for CBI cases, Velu, who heard the case, sentenced Krishnamurthy to five years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1.03 lakh.
Ramesh was sentenced to undergo three years in prison with a fine of Rs. 20 lakh.
