Left-sponsored bandh peaceful in Bihar

Special Correspondent

PATNA: The Bihar bandh sponsored by the Left parties, coinciding with their nationwide strike on Wednesday, was peaceful.

Most commercial banks and the Postal Department were affected. The Railways cancelled at least four trains to Kolkata. Two flights were also cancelled.

The National Highway 31 was blocked for several hours, affecting the movement of heavy vehicles connecting Guwahati.

More than 2,000 bandh supporters were taken into custody.
