Forced landing: The helicopter carrying Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy lands on the Narsaraopet bypass road on Thursday. NARSARAOPET: District officials and intelligence sleuths manning the security of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had a few heart-stopping moments after his chopper was made to land on the Narsaraopet bypass road on Thursday afternoon. Soon after receiving the communiqué from the security agencies that the soggy conditions at the helipad on the K.B.R College would be unfit for landing, men of the Roads & Buildings Department and the municipality swung into action and made arrangements for landing on the road. District Collector B. Venkatesham and SP Mahesh Chandra Laddha supervised the arrangements. An earthmover was deployed to remove the uneven rough patches while bushes were cleared. The road was marked and a signalling balloon put in place as the chopper landed at 12.20 p.m., an hour behind schedule. Overcast conditions persisted throughout the day keeping the officials on tenterhooks. Heavy rain on Wednesday night forced the officials to shift the venue of the medical camp from the mini-stadium to the P.N.C & K.R College, where the Chief Minister addressed the beneficiaries in an auditorium.
