NEW DELHI: The Outer Ring Road on Thursday moved a step closer to becoming completely signal free with the inauguration of the Mongolpuri Grade Separator by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The project that has come up on one of the busiest junctions on this main road, would cater to traffic on both National Highway-10 and NH-1 and from Mongolpuri Industrial Area Phase-I and II. The construction of this grade separator was taken up in phases. In the first phase, construction of slip roads was taken up and traffic was diverted on these roads. Thereafter, work on the main flyover and approaches was undertaken. The 477-metre-long flyover has also been provided with a foot over bridge and escalator to help the pedestrians cross over. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit said the Public Works Department, that has constructed the grade separators, is also engaged in 16 other projects. PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said senior engineers of the Department have been told to expedite all on-going projects in view of the Commonwealth Games in 2010. He said an action plan has been drawn up to closely monitor the on-going projects. During her visit to the area, Ms. Dikshit also laid the foundation stone of an ITI building at Mongolpuri Industrial Area Phase-I. The building would be constructed at an estimated amount of Rs.12.50 crore by June 2010 and have all modern training equipment and facilities in 48 units of 16 different trades. The training would be imparted through EduSat, audio-visual rooms and computer laboratories.
