CPI(M) for white cards to all eligible poor

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State committee has demanded that the government take steps to provide white ration cards to all eligible poor and restore the earlier practice of giving coupons for taking commodities from fair price shops for three years.

The CPI(M) wants the government to convert the pink ration cards into white ones in tune with the revised income ceiling and set up permanent centres in mandal headquarters for issuing ration cards on a continuous basis.

Black market

He wanted the officials concerned to desist from cutting down in the quota of kerosene on the pretext that the family received gas connection under the Deepam scheme. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu alleged that public distribution system was facing a severe crisis because of the negligence of the officials in rectifying the lapses in the system. As a result, the commodities meant for poor were being diverted to black market.
