‘Remarks on tickets to BCs in next elections distorted’ Chiefs for Hyderabad, Khammam, Kurnool to be finalised in a week
HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president D. Srinivas was upset at the manner in which a section of the media was trying to project the appointment of new District Congress Committee (DCC) chiefs as a one man affair. A day after the list was announced, Mr. Srinivas at a press conference on Thursday objected to media reports that suggested that he had handpicked the DCC presidents overlooking the suggestions made by the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He was also critical at attempts to project him in bad light by allegedly distorting his remarks on the tickets to backward classes in the next elections. He said the list was finalised after several rounds of discussions with Dr. Reddy and other party seniors. “The high command put its seal of approval to the list prepared after joint exercise,” he pointed out. He said weaker sections got their due with BC communities like Poosala, Nagara, Balija, Setti Balija, Gangaputra, Gandla and Kalinga getting representation. “I personally feel that more than 100 BCs should be elected to the Assembly in the next election,” he observed. Asked about the delay in naming the chiefs of Hyderabad, Khammam and Kurnool units, Mr. Srinivas said the high command would finalise the names in a week’s time. He tried to play down the controversy over not naming Danam Nagender as the Hyderabad unit chief.
