Mumbai blasts: key accused held

Staff Reporter

Mumbai: The Crime Branch police have arrested a key accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, Karimullah Khan Osan Khan at Nallasopara, a Mumbai suburb. He will be tried in the TADA court here.

Joint Commissioner (Crime) Rakesh Maria told journalists here on Thursday that Khan (46) was declared absconder and a red corner notice was issued against him in 1995. The Central Bureau of Investigation had announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh for information on him.

Mr. Maria said Khan was the right hand man of a blast convict, the late Ejaz Pathan, and was instrumental in overseeing the landing of RDX and other ammunition on the Shekhadi coast in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. There were two landings at Shekhadi — one on January 6 and 7, 1993 and the other on February 5 and 6, 1993.
