iPhone arrives

HYDERABAD: Ajay Sharma, a techie, received the city’s first 3-G iPhone from prominent Telugu tinsel town personalities Srikanth and Sunil at two minutes past midnight on Thursday.

CEO of Bharti Airtel, Andhra Pradesh circle, T. Elango, was also present at the launch. Hyderabad is one of the six cities including Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata where the much-hyped Apple’s iPhone was launched at midnight.

The iPhone comes in two variants – Rs.31,000 for a white phone with 8 GB memory and Rs.36,100 for a black and white phone with a 16-GB card.

In reply to a question as to why the launch was done at midnight he said the launch of an iconic product deserved a special moment to be unveiled. An estimated 2 lakh people had expressed interest in buying an iPhone, he said.

When asked about service back-up Mr. Elango described that it would be world class.

Fourty one batches of employees were undergoing specialised and intensive Apple-oriented training.
