‘Mappilapattu’ singers to be honoured

KOZHIKODE: The doyens of Mappila songs from Malabar such as V.M. Kutty, K.T. Moideen, O.M. Karuvarakkundu, Pakkar Pannoor, Bappu Vellipparamba and Vilayil Faseela will be honoured in a public function organised by Edumart Academic Hypermarket at the Edumart Auditorium here on Monday.

Those who are being honoured include writers and singers of the unique art form.

M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, former MP, will be the chief guest on the occasion. A concert of Mappila songs by the veteran ‘mappilapattu’ singers also will be held during the occasion.

Three books, including one in Urdu, brought out by Ashrafi Books under Edumart will be released by the chief guest during the function. The programme will start at 10 .30 a.m.
