Government urged to supply charcoal, detergents etc through civil supplies department

ANANTAPUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a dharna in front of the Municipal Corporation office here on Friday demanding solution to the pending problems of artisans. Protection to the traditional vocations from modernisation, market facilities and others were sought for their benefit.

Artisans like washermen, basket makers, goldsmiths and others were facing tough times in the wake of price rise of raw material, the party leaders stated.

Supply material

They urged the government to supply charcoal, detergents and other requirements through civil supplies department and payment of power bills to dhobighats. Besides, with regard to the financial assistance from the government to dalit, minority and backward classes, only a few were being given loans every year.

Put together, only a couple of hundreds from these communities were getting loans for continuing their traditional professions.
