Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Government will launch a special drive to check illegal and fake ration card utilisation and deliver benefits of the subsidised essential commodities only to bonafide card holders. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Friday that the State has 14.44 lakh ration card holders consisting of 1,97,100 beneficiaries, 3,16,900 below poverty line and 9,30,000 above poverty line under Antyodya Anna Yojana people, while reviewing the functioning of Food and Civil supplies department here. The hill State has a vast network of 4,342 fair price shops being operated by cooperative societies, individuals, gram panchayats, mahila mandals and civil supplies corporation.
Authorisation The Chief Minister said the State has authorised the pradhans of respective gram panchayats to issue ration cards to the residents of their panchayats. Mr. Dhumal also urged the panchayati raj representatives to cooperate with the State Government in weeding out illegal and fake ration cards in their jurisdiction. He said the government was planning to computerise the whole system to get connected with the fair price shops so as to eliminate the misuse of the ration under different schemes. — PTI
