CITU regrets media coverage

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State secretariat of the CITU has regretted the media onslaught on the August 20 general strike over disruption of travel facilities and violent incidents in certain parts of the State. In a statement here on Friday, the CITU secretariat pointed out that the trade union sponsoring committee had organised the strike after a campaign lasting two months and cautioning the people about the possibility of train services getting disrupted.

Despite this, the media were highlighting isolated incidents to launch a ‘heinous’ attack on the strike and the trade unions that had organised it.

It pointed out that around eight crore workers had participated in the strike organised over six specific demands.
