Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has allayed fears about bringing together different streams of medicine under the proposed medical university to be set up in Thrissur. The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the Fourth Triennial conference of the Academy of Clinical Microbiologists and pre-conference on ‘Changing trends in Hospital Infections’ at the Medical College here on Friday. Describing the move to set up a medical varsity in the State as a significant decision taken by the LDF government, Ms. Sreemathy said the university would usher in major changes in the academic and research field. It will also address the problems faced by medical students in the State. “Fears raised by certain quarters that bringing together Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha and Unani under the medical varsity would lead to confusion are unfounded.” Different streams of medicine are functioning under the medical varsity in Chandigarh and neighbouring Tamil Nadu, she said.
