CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Friday ordered status quo on a writ petition by T.T.V. Dinakaran, MP, challenging an order issued under the Tamil Nadu Revenue Recovery Act to take the management of property in which his family was residing. When the petition came up before Justice A. Kulasekaran, notice was taken on behalf of the Collector of Chennai District and Tahsildar, Mylapore-Triplicane Taluk, cited as respondents. The matter has been posted for August 25. Mr. Dinakaran submitted that a penalty of Rs.28 crore was imposed on him for alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act by the Special Director, Enforcement Directorate (ED). This amount was directed to be paid to the Central government. However, this order had not become final as an appeal was pending before the High Court. The Chennai Collector had now passed an order purporting to invoke the Tamil Nadu Revenue Recovery Act. As per the impugned order, the respondents wanted to take the management of the property in which his family was residing. Mr. Dinakaran submitted that there were co-owners to the property who were also residing there. The respondents had no jurisdiction to invoke the Tamil Nadu Revenue Recovery Act.
