BANGALORE: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Mallikarjuna Kharge has charged the Bharatiya Janata Party with “subversion of political system and democratic norms” in the State. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Kharge said: “Whatever happened in Bijapur a couple of days ago was nothing short of a revolt by the people for betraying their trust in the government and the party that runs the government.” Mr. Kharge asked: “Who gave the power to the BJP to remove ministers from their posts when the Minister had risen to that stature with the vote of the people?” He said the BJP was “supplanting the popular mandate with forced and distorted mandate.” He said the unrest that the State has seen in the recent days in Hubli, Mysore, Anekal and Bijapur was a result of seething discontentment among the voters. He said the morality of the BJP MLAs who have lost their berths in the ministry was low and in such conditions the government cannot function normally. Mr. Kharge said the Congress had no deserters as of now and nothing could be said about the future. He said that his party had begun the process of delimitation of its structure in the State. The nuber of blocks in the Stae would be reduced to 448 from 454. This change had been necessitated following delimitation of Assembly and parliamentary constituencies. The party would have one block for every 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh people. All district units and committees had been notified to identify and earmark areas for new blocks.
