Olympic heroes to become DSPs

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Friday announced that all four players of Haryana who had reached quarter finals in their respective events at Beijing Olympics would be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Mr. Hooda stated that a wrestling academy would be set up at an appropriate place in the State to promote wrestling. He announced a cash award of Rs 50 lakh to Vijender Kumar for winning a bronze medal in Olympics. He promised Rs 25 lakh to the boxing coach, Jagdish.

He also announced a cash award of Rs 25 lakh each to boxers Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt. He said that a boxing academy would be established in Bhiwani.

Stating that the performance of the players of Haryana had proved that there was no dearth of talent, the Chief Minister said the State Government was constructing over150 stadiums in rural areas.
