Focus on programmes to increase wages of people: Sen
HYDERABAD: Planning Commission member, Abhijit Sen has called for focusing on programmes to increase the wages of people rather than providing subsidies which make too much demand on natural resources such as power and fertilizers. Talking to reporters after delivering a lecture on ‘Agricultural prices, food security and trade in prices’ at the Administrative Staff College of India here on Friday, he said whether it be food or fertilizer, the subsidy was now a major problem. He said that a huge amount was involved on the subsidies.“Some of it is obviously necessary and some of it is obviously creating inefficiency”.
