‘Vallasadya’ at Aranmula temple today

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Elaborate arrangements have been made at the Sree Parthasarathy Temple on the banks of the Pampa at Aranmula for the Ashtami-Rohini Vallasadya on Janmashtami on Saturday.

The ritualistic annual feast, organised by the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom (PSS) and the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), is offered to the crew of palliyodams (snake-boats), venerating the oarsmen as representatives of Lord Parthasarathy. Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the State visit Aranmula on the occasion.

Melsanthi Sankaranarayanan Nampoothiri lit the ceremonial lamp on Thursday morning to commence the preparation of food items. TDB spokesman T. Arunkumar said the feast would be served after ‘utcha puja.’

The crew of 40 snake-boats are expected to participate in the feast.
