Eight Nepal Ministers sworn in

Prerana Marasini

KATHMANDU: Eight Ministers — belonging to the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) — took the oath of office on Friday.

The Maoist Ministers include Baburam Bhattarai (Finance), Ram Bahadur Thapa (Defence), Krishna Bahadur Mahara (Information and Telecommunication) and Dev Prasad Gurung (Law and Order).

Upendra Yadav (Foreign Minister), Bijay Kumar Gachhedar (Physical Planning and Development), Jay Prakash Gupta (Agriculture and Cooperative), and Renu Kumari adav (Education) are from the MJF.

The government would have three Deputy Prime Ministers — one each from the three major parties. Among them, Mr. Bhattarai and Mr. Upendra Yadav were sworn in on Friday. The other nominee is Bam Dev Gautam of the CPN (UML).

CPN(UML) warning

Though the CPN (UML) had finalised the names of its six Ministers, it did not take part in the swearing-in as it could not reach an agreement on ministerial hierarchy.
