Ramesh helps Villupuram post win

Tuticorin: G. Ramesh’s five for 11 helped Villupuram defeat Thanjavur by eight wickets in the TNCA inter-district under-16 cricket tournament, here recently.

The scores: Thanjavur 37 in 21.1 overs (G. Ramesh five for 11, K. Kaviarasan three for 18) lost to Villupuram 38 for two in 13 overs.

Tuticorin 121 in 32 overs (K. Vignesh 24) lost to Sivagangai 122 for four in 35 overs (Gopinath 39 n.o., Anokraj 23 n.o.)

Chess tournament

At Madurai, Meenakshi Chess Centre Vajpayee Charitable Trust Chess Festival will organise an open chess tournament for boys and girls. The events are for under-9, u-12, u-15 and above-15.

The meet will be held at the Sri Prasanna Venkateswara MHSS, No. 4, Theppakulam East Street, on August 24.
