DAV posts win

HYDERABAD: DAV Public School (Kukatpally) recorded a 15-12, 15-12 win over Rajashree Vidya Mandir in the boys’ section (preliminary round) of the Regal Sports inter-School volleyball tournament for the Naresh Memorial Trophy on Friday.

Sameer sizzles

Winger Sameer struck four times, including a hat-trick, to fashion AOC Centre’s 6-1 win over Nav Bharat Club in the ‘A’-1 division hockey league championship.

The other scorers were Ramaswamy and Satya Prakash. Veer Singh reduced the margin.

AV College in last four

AV College defeated Muffakam Jah Engineering College 25-14, 25-19 in the boys’ volleyball quarterfinals of the Osmania University inter-Collegiate sports meet.

Sandhu shines

At Vijayawada, B. Sandhu (five for 39) and B. Patel (three for 39) helped Mumbai restrict Andhra to 159 in 52.1 overs in the two-day practice match at Anantapur on Friday. Andhra’s A.G. Pradeep was the top-scorer with 52.

The scores: Mumbai XI 400 for seven drew with Andhra XI 159 in 52.1 overs (A.G. Pradeep 52, Sumanth 34, B. Sandhu five for 39, B. Patel three for 39).

Rain plays spoilsport

At Guntur, Prakasam made 52 for one in 32 overs against Guntur in the rain-marred two-day ACA Central Zone under-16 inter-district tournament for the Valluri Kesava Rao Trophy on Friday.

The scores: Prakasam 52 for one in 32 overs vs. Guntur.

Shajahan hits century

At Vijayawada, Sk. Shajahan’s 101 helped N.S.M. Public School defeat V.P.S. Public School by 106 runs in the KDCA inter-School tournament on Friday. Rahul (five for 26) was the pick of the NSM bowlers.

The scores: NSM 218 in 46.5 overs (Sk. Shajahan 101, B. Venkatesh 25) bt VPS 112 in 30.4 overs (Koutilya Kumar Goud 43, Rahul five for 26).

Match cancelled

The match between West Godavari and Combined XI in the ACA women’s u-19 inter-district tournament on Friday was cancelled due to non-availability of the ground.

Honour for medallists

Katragadda Venkatanarayana Trust chairman K. Naga Malleswara Rao said on Friday that his trust would felicitate the three Olympic medal winners Abhinav Bindra, Sushil Kumar and Vijender Kumar in Vijayawada.

Bouts held

At Visakhapatnam, bouts of the preliminary round were held on Friday, the first day of the three-day State senior boxing championship. Competition are being held in 11 weight categories.
