THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The intelligence quotient of Indian scientists and doctors are on a par with the international minds, Dr. Fazil Marickar, a former professor and head of the department of surgery at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, has said. He was speaking to mediapersons after being selected for the Colonel Pandalai oration award on Friday. The award, one of the most sought after by surgeons in the country, was instituted by Colonel Pandalai, a surgeon and the father-in-law of Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma, the head of the ruling family of erstwhile Travancore. It is the first time that the award is being given to a surgeon from the State since its inception in 1961. The award is based on life-time achievement by a surgeon in the fields of academic, clinical work, research and teaching. Mr. Marickar described the Colonel Pandalai award as a dream come true. The award will be presented at Ludhiana on December 27 by the president of the Associations of Surgeons of India.
