BANGALORE: Two buses were set on fire near Devanahalli and traffic was affected for an hour following the death of a person in an accident on Friday. According to the police, Amarnath (22), working at the Bengaluru International Airport, was crossing the road near Kannamangala Gate when a private bus hit him. He died on the spot. Passers-by then turned their ire on the bus. The driver abandoned the bus and fled. The residents of Kallahalli then set the bus on fire. They later also set fire to another bus. The villagers stopped vehicles and demanded compensation to the victim. They did not allow the body to be shifted and insisted that the local MLA visit the spot. Senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Basavaraj Malagatti and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-West) Pandurang Rane held discussions with protestors and prevailed upon them to end the agitation. RaidThe Upparpet police on Friday raided a shop at National Market in Gandhinagar and recovered pirated DVDs and VCDs worth Rs. 33,000. Kumar and Gopinath were arrested. Following the arrest, some persons reportedly related to Kumar attacked the owner of the neighbouring shop suspecting him of tipping-off the police. The police have registered a case against Kumar and those who carried out the assault.
