Congress leaders take potshots at Chiranjeevi ahead of his party’s launch HYDERABAD: A few days ahead of the actor Chiranjeevi announcing his party’s policies in Tirupati on August 26, the Congress party leaders started taking dig at his party saying that it will fight it out with the Telugu Desam Party for the second place in the next elections. ProgrammesNotwithstanding the Congress’ decision to refrain from comments about the new party, some leaders are taking pot shots at him. On Friday, senior Congress leader Palvai Goverdhan Reddy and government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy claimed that the ruling party will retain power on the strength of the ongoing programmes leaving other parties far behind. At separate press conferences, they held that the ruling party was in an unassailable position and the TDP and Chiru’s party will end up fighting for the second place. Mr. Goverdhan Reddy said, “On what basis will these parties seek votes, when poor families are enjoying multiple benefits.” The TDP and the TRS chiefs have lost credibility while the new party has nothing to offer to the people except glamour, he commented. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said, “the progress made in the last four years will bring back Congress and make Dr. Reddy, the Chief Minister for the second consecutive time,” he added. They ridiculed Mr. Chandrababu Naidu for making a spate of promises even after concluding the ‘Mee Kosam’ programme. The promises made to the SCs at a meeting on Thursday by Mr. Naidu only smacked of his desperation to regain power.
