NEW DELHI: Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami on Friday said there were no plans to hold by-election from the Narasapur Lok Sabha constituency in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in view of the announcement of resignation by Congress MP Ch. V. Hariram Jogaiah. Talking to The Hindu here, he said the Commission was yet to receive an official communication about the creation of vacancy from the Lok Sabha secretariat. The EC would not hold bypoll if the period between the completion of the term of Lok Sabha (May 16, 2009) and date on which the vacancy had arisen was less than a year, he said. Mr. Jogaiah had announced his resignation from the Lok Sabha and the primary membership of the Congress party to join the new party to be launched by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi. He told this newspaper from Hyderabad that he had faxed a copy of his resignation letter to the Speaker’s office on August 17 and sent the original by post.
