“Recognise excellence in application of scientific aid to investigation”

CHENNAI: Director-General of Police (Law and Order) K.P. Jain has called for instituting a trophy for excellence in application of scientific aid to investigation in real cases.

Distributing medals to winners of various competitions held as part of the Tamil Nadu Police Duty Meet 2008, here on Friday, he said a committee should be constituted to consider cases of exemplary investigation that involved application of scientific aid at the range level and award prizes. “Besides competitions like this, recognising good work real cases will encourage the investigators,” he said.

Mr. Jain said 400 personnel would be recruited and inducted into the police band soon.

“We recently appointed 300 personnel. In the next police duty meet, we should have competitions in police band.”

Additional Director-General of Police (Crime Branch CID) Archana Ramsundaram said 434 participants, including 87 women representing six Commissionerates and 12 police ranges, took part in the competition. The events included anti-sabotage check, scientific aid to investigation and firing.

Fifty sniffer dogs exhibited their talent in tracking, narcotics and explosive detection.

The first place in overall championship in rifle shooting, scientific aid to investigation and Dog Squad was bagged by Chennai Police. While the first place in overall championship in computer awareness and anti-sabotage check went to Madurai City, the first place in overall championship in photography went to Coimbatore City.
