Audikeshavulu made TTD chairman
HYDERABAD: In a dramatic development, the State government on Saturday appointed D. K. Audikeshavulu Naidu, who was expelled from the Telugu Desam Party as the chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
He will be sworn in as chairman at Tirumala on Monday to succeed B. Karunakar Reddy whose three-year term ended on Friday.
The appointment of the Chittoor MP came as complete surprise as there was speculation that he was considering the option of joining the actor Chiranjeevi’s party. This development followed his meeting with Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy when he expressed his desire to support Congress and strengthen the latter’s hand.
“I am with you. I have always backed Congress Chief Ministers and voted in favour of the United Progressive Alliance government during the recent vote of confidence in Parliament after the Left parties withdrew support over the nuclear deal,” he was quoted as telling the Chief Minister.
The influential leader from Chittoor district was sailing with the Congress till 1998 when he was APCC Treasurer but switched loyalties to the TDP later.
He won the Chittoor Lok Sabha seat in 2004. His appointment brings to a close the running feud between the outgoing chairman Karunakar Reddy and TTD Executive Officer K. V. Ramanachary.
