Ayudham Ayudham, directed by Nishad, attempts to unravel the mystery behind a bomb blast on a beach which leads to communal riots in the area. The film also depicts how an innocent youngster is wrongly implicated and the woes of his family. Though the first half of the film is gripping with strong dialogues by S.L. Puram Jayasoma, with the arrival of the protagonist and the dialogues to suit his character the tempo of the film gets derailed. The dialogues lose their punch. The plot begins with an explosion that kills and injures many people. The police, under Commissioner of Police Mahendra Varma (Anil Adithyan), find a mobile phone from the scene of the explosion and track it to Anwar (Bala), who had been working in a software company in Bangalore. Meanwhile, not at all satisfied with the investigation, Chief Minister Madhavan (Thilakan) appoints Rishikesh (Suresh Gopi), a crimes DIG, to look into the matter. Rishikesh and his colleagues, as usual, nab the culprits. Thilakan and Bala outshine all other characters in the film. Murali, Seema, Bharati, Jagathi Sreekumar and Rajan P. Dev have done commendable jobs. A high point of the film is a lively song sung by K.J. Yesudas and Manjari with a well-choreographed dance sequence. G. Jayakumar
