Civic polls: Congress finalises list

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: The State unit of Opposition Congress has started making serious preparations for the forthcoming civic body polls. The senior leaders of the party finalised the list of candidates for the 93 municipalities and notified area councils on Saturday. The elections are scheduled to be held on Sept 19. The list was finalised after the newly-reconstituted Coordination Committee of the Pradesh Congress Committee held its first meeting here on Friday evening.

The meeting discussed the preparations required for the civic body polls, and also gave responsibility to different leaders to oversee the work in different districts.

The meeting of the Committee was held under the chairmanship of party’s in-charge for the State and convenor of the Committee Ajay Maken. All the 22 members of the Coordination Committee, including Leader of Opposition J.B. Patnaik and PCC president Jayadev Jena, took part in the meeting.
