Bidar ZP approves Rs. 112-crore action plan

Primary and higher education have been given priority


Rs. 2.75 crore has been allocated for social welfare activities

Panchayat members oppose Deputy Commissioner’s interference


BIDAR: Priority has been given to primary and higher education in the Bidar Zilla Panchayat action plan approved for 2008-09.

Family welfare and healthcare occupied come next in the list of priorities.

A special meeting chaired by zilla panchayat president Sangeeta Sangamesh Patil approved the Rs. 112.35-crore action plan.

Zilla panchayat chief executive officer G.C. Prakash and vice-president Rajshekar B. Patil were present.

According to the plan, the allocation for primary and higher education is Rs. 23.33 crore; for family welfare services, Rs. 6.47 croe, and for medical and general health, Rs. 5.17 crore.

Roads and bridges

A sum of Rs. 2.75 crore has been allocated for social welfare activities, Rs. 2.74 crore for constructing roads and bridges, Rs. 2.57 crore for agriculture, Rs. 48.34 lakh for animal husbandry and Rs. 29.85 lakh for horticulture.

Sanitation

In the action plan, Rs. 1.42 lakh has been allocated for water supply and sanitation.

Panchayat members expressed dissatisfaction with the interference of Bidar Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta in the functioning of zilla panchayat.

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Justice Shivraj Hassankar said Mr. Gupta had ordered the suspension of officials of the Department of Women and Child Welfare. Both the officials were suspended a week ago, and the posts were vacant bringing work to a halt.

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Industry D.K. Siddaram urged the president to ask Mr. Gupta to attend the general body meeting of the zilla panchayat.
