Ministers’ heads may roll, hints YSR

Special Correspondent

Inevitability of change of guard underlined

Many Ministers, MLAs may not get party ticket

Poor attendance of Ministers in Assembly flayed

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has dropped enough hints that some Ministers in the State Cabinet as also many Congress legislators may not get party ticket in the next elections as their “prospects of winning are bleak.”

Dr. Reddy told the Ministers at a Cabinet meeting on Saturday about the inevitability of change in guard in the constituencies where the Congress was likely to suffer reverses. “There are MLAs who cannot secure even a second place in their constituencies,” he reportedly said.

The atmosphere was positive for the Congress in a majority of the constituencies and the Congress would “bet on the winning horses.” “We will win the gold medal in the election Olympics and the other parties will fight for the silver and bronze medals,” he was quoted as saying.

Instructions

The Ministers were asked to coordinate with the district party units instead of shifting the entire responsibility to the District Congress Committees. The Ministers, in-charges of districts in particular, should stay put in their respective districts and help effective management of party affairs, he said.

Dr. Reddy is learnt to have told the Ministers that the scope for entering into alliances with other parties was minimal and different parties announced their intentions to contest against the Congress. He wanted them to identify the leaders who were likely to move over to other parties in advance so that necessary measures to fill the gaps could be initiated.

The Chief Minister was also unhappy over the “poor attendance” of Ministers in the Assembly and their failure to study the issues before hand.
