CHANDIGARH: Former Haryana Additional Advocate-General Sanjiv Bansal, who was arrested three days ago in a bribery case, confessed to the police that he was a mediator between Delhi hotelier Ravinder Singh and Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge, Nirmal Yadav. According to the police, Bansal said he was asked to deliver Rs.5-6 lakh sent by the hotelier to the judge’s house. The caseBansal’s arrest was made after an FIR was registered on the basis of High Court Judge Nirmaljit Kaur’s complaint that Rs.15 lakh in cash was delivered at her house by Bansal’s munshi on August 13. The cash reached Nirmaljit Kaur’s house instead of Nirmal Yadav’s house and this misunderstanding led to the investigation. According to an interim report prepared by the Chandigarh police on August 13, another sum of Rs.15 lakh was delivered at Justice Yadav’s home the next day by Bansal’s friend and property dealer Rajiv Gupta. The report has been sent to the Union Territory Administrator and Punjab Governor General (retd.) S.F. Rodrigues and Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur. The general house of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana High Court had suspended the membership of Bansal from the High Court Bar on Friday. Nirmal Yadav also proceeded on leave, on Friday, after her name figured in the scam.
