DEHRA DUN: Uttarakhand Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri flagged off the Satopanth Expedition of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering from here over the weekend. Expressing happiness over the Institute’s move to prepare youngsters for taking up an expedition to the Mount Everest in the near future, Mr. Khanduri said the team would be doing a great service by planting 100 Bhojpatra saplings in the ecologically fragile Gangotri valley, holding a health camp and creating environment awareness in the area besides learning the intricacies of high mountain climbing. Col. M.M. Mansur Principal of the Institute said the Satopanth expedition was aimed at imparting a professional climbing experience to the members. The training included focus on high altitude experience, ice climbing practice and an attempt on the Satopanth peak. The expedition will begin from Gangotri on August 25 and conclude at the same place on September 17.
