BELLARY: The Central Advisory Committee on Eradicating Child Labour is contemplating involving gram panchayats in creating “child labour-free zones” in their respective jurisdictions, committee vice-chairman Nasir Hussain has said. Speaking to presspersons, he said that workshops would be organised for select members of gram panchayats to impart training in a phased manner so that they could sensitise people in their areas to create child labour-free zones. In addition, a training-cum-orientation programme for Deputy Commissioners/Collectors of 250 districts, where the National Child Labour Project Schools are being run, will be organised in October, he said. According to him, 8,887 NCLP schools were being run in 250 districts in the country in which around 5.5 lakh school dropouts are given rigorous training before being admitted to regular schools.
