Plantation sector workers’ wages up

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Plantation Labour Committee meeting here on Saturday increased the minimum wages of rubber, coffee and tea plantation workers.

The meeting, chaired by the Kerala Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan, decided to increase the wages of rubber plantation workers to Rs. 150 and tea and coffee estate workers to Rs. 115.

Arrears

While the unions demanded that the rubber plantation workers be paid arrears with effect from April 1, 2006, the managements insisted on July 1, 2008.

Mr. Gurudasan directed to clear the arrears from April 1, 2008.
