Panel to suggest reforms in conduct of UPSC exams
Staff Reporter
RASIPURAM: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances & Law and Justice will suggest reforms in the conduct of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations, including the Civil Services examination.
The panel will propose to the UPSC to shorten the duration of the selection process for the civil services examination and adopt modern methods to conduct the test, said its chairperson E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan on Saturday.
The committee has a proposal to adopt online test method, which will enable the students to see their marks immediately.
The UPSC practice of interviewing general and reserved category candidates separately should be stopped. The interviews should be held for all the categories commonly.
The selection should only be made based on the reservation, Mr. Sudarsana Natchiappan felt.
Currently, the 18-month period for conducting the civil services examination is far too long.
If this situation continued, it might not attract more talented people for the civil services in the future, he pointed out.
The Committee is currently seeking opinion from the public to improve the working of UPSC.
The panel would submit its report in this regard to Parliament in another two months, he said.
Steps would be taken to ensure more transparency in the functioning of the UPSC, he added.
