District Collector’s advice to people

Do not immerse chemical coated idols: Venkatesh

KARUR: Collector T.N. Venkatesh has urged the public to undertake precautions while immersing the idols of Lord Vinayakar after the chaturthi celebrations in the district.

Setting out the guidelines, Mr. Venkatesh noted in a press release issued here recently that only clay images bereft of any chemical paintings should be used for worship and then for immersion in water bodies.

Devotees and organisations should desist from immersing chemical coated idols in drinking water bodies.

Select locations such as Thavuttupalayam, Vangal, Nerur, Mayanur and Kadambar Koil along River Cauvery and Aravakurichi and Rajapuram along River Amaravathy have been identified as spots for idol immersion in the district.

The Collector has also urged the public not to immerse idols within 500 metre of drinking water pumping stations in the water bodies.
