KOCHI: Workers affiliated to the MACTA Drivers’ Union on Saturday disrupted the shooting of director Swathi Bhaskar’s debut film Currency alleging that they were denied job by the producer. Drivers holding placards marched to the walkway at Marine Drive, where the shooting was progressing. Actors Jayasoorya and Meera Nandan were at the location when the incident occurred. A heated argument between the production controllers and the protesting drivers followed and the shooting was suspended. The drivers alleged that the producer had denied job to a driver affiliated to the drivers’ union. They wanted immediate steps to resolve the issue. Production controllers of the movie said that the driver was not denied job but was only asked not to bring his car to the location. The driver was allowed to use another car given by the producer. But he refused to accept this decision and went on to stage a protest at the location on Saturday morning, they said. The shooting was resumed in the afternoon with police protection. Makers of the film said that discussions will be held to sort out the issue amicably. They said that the protest was part of the factional feud among technicians ahead of the MACTA elections slated for the first week of September.
