KASARAGOD: Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said that there are moves to start two more industries in the State in the defence sector. Addressing a function at Seethangoli here after laying the foundation of a strategic electronics manufacturing unit of the HAL on Saturday, he said that the Union and State governments had started deliberations on it. Announcements would be made at an appropriate time. Speaking on the occasion, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said that a consensus of opinion was needed among the political parties for the State’s development. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh were ahead of the State in industrial development and Kerala needed to catch up with them, said Mr. Karim. Baseless controversies on industrial projects would not help the State to achieve the goal of development, he added. “Thousands of students graduate from the State’s universities every year. We should provide them an opportunity to work in their homeland. Those who trigger controversies should ask themselves whether the educated youth should leave the State and work in Middle East or Bangalore and Hyderabad,” he asked. Mr. Karim said that the State government was organising a meeting at Asoka Hotel in New Delhi on August 28 to showcase the State as an investor friendly place and attract investors from all over the country. All MPs from the State are expected to participate in the meeting, he added.
