Clarification

With reference to the report ‘Unfair bus fare collection alleged’ published on August 23 in these columns, a statement from Transport Minister K.N. Nehru has said no charge other than the stipulated fare was collected from the passengers. Of the 41 trips made from Kancheepuram to Tiruvannamalai on August 16, three were special services that included a detour to the Thennangur temple on ‘Pournami.’ The fare of Rs. 46 collected from passengers comprised Rs. 36 in regular fare, Rs. 5 for the 4-km detour and Rs. 5 for the half-an-hour wait at the temple.
