Friendly gesture: Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu at Ramanaidu studios on Saturday. HYDERABAD: Film actor Chiranjeevi turned emotional at a high tea he hosted on Saturday afternoon to representatives of an industry that had nurtured him for three decades. “The thought that I will not be donning the grease paint anymore saddens and even scares me. The decision to enter public life was a very conscious one and I promise that I will make everyone here very proud that we knew each other,” he said. Eminent personalities of the film industry were present and conspicuous by their absence were members of the NTR family. Mr. Chiranjeevi thanked everyone present and with specific reference to film producers, expressed his gratitude, recalling those from whom he had received remuneration of a bare Rs.1,116. Among those present were producers Ashwini Dutt, V.B. Rajendra Prasad, Devi Varaprasad, Muralimohan, M. Shyamprasad Reddy, K.L. Narayana and K.S. Rama Rao and directors Kodandarami Reddy, Raviraja Pinisetty and Raghavendra Rao, to name a few with whom Mr. Chiranjeevi has done the maximum number of films. Stars who attended included Venkatesh and Akkineni Nagarjuna and others included writers Paruchuri brothers, music directors Keeravani and Koti. Directors from the younger crop included Dasaradh, V.V. Vinayak. The presence of M. Mohan Babu marked the end of their strained relations since the past several months. It may be recalled that the former’s comments on who was a ‘legend’ and who was a ‘celebrity’ at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Telugu film industry had created a ruckus. Entry to the media was barred though the star had earlier said journalists could attend the function. Hundreds of fans thronged the road and kept shouting slogans hailing the star’s entry into politics.
