4 held for alleged grabbing of property
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: The Pallavaram police on Saturday arrested four men and are on the look-out for six others for allegedly preparing fake documents, grabbing seven acres of temple land at Tirusulam and selling it to unsuspecting residents.
On Friday, T. Anbukkarasi, Executive Officer of the Tirusulanathar temple at Tirusulam submitted a petition to Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner S.R. Jangid. It was forwarded to the Pallavaram police, who registered a case and, after preliminary investigations, picked up a few for questioning.
On Saturday, they arrested Veerakumar, Babu, Panneer and Palani for preparing fake documents and selling a few cents each to unsuspecting residents for a couple of lakhs. The police said they were searching for six others, including a ward member of the Tirusulam village panchayat. Ms. Anbukkarasai had said in her complaint that the temple came under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, and at Tirusulam alone, it had 80 acres.
Recently efforts were made by a group to encroach on seven acres. During an inspection, it was found that huts had put up in a bid to usurp the land, she said.
