Panchayat chief, three others held

THENI: Amachiapuram panchayat president Thamizhanbu and three others were arrested on the charges of cheating and misappropriation of funds here on Sunday.

The three other arrested were Venkatesan, Thirupathi and Azhagesan, all panchayat staff. The police said that the president used false signature to withdraw cash. He put a signature of vice-president Thamizh Selvi in a cheque and withdrew Rs. 5,000 from panchayat accounts.
