Temple to launch free meal scheme on August 29

Initially, some 100 persons will be fed every Friday, says Kakinada MLA


Kakinada: The development committee of Sri Bala Tripura Sundari Sametha Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy temple is launching a free meal scheme on August 29. Initially, it will be offered every Friday and extended to other days in a phased manner, according to Kakinada MLA M. Gopalakrishna.

He told reporters on Sunday that he got the idea from a similar gesture by the Government of Delhi. A portion of the temple income would be utilised for the scheme. Initially, 100 persons would be fed every Friday and more needy people served in the due course. Donors can contribute Rs. 15 for a single meal, Rs. 750 for 50 meals and Rs. 1,500 for 100 meals on any single day other than 51 Fridays that follow the launch date.

Temple committee chairman S. Satyanarayana and executive officer Rammohan Rao were present.
