Ryots plan stir against fertilizer shortage
Correspondent
VIZIAIANAGARAM: The A.P. Rythu Sangam has planned direct action against shortage of fertilizers and other problems of farmers in the district. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, M. Suryanarayana, district secretary of the sangham, said that the government was not taking action in spite of severe shortage of fertilizers during the ongoing kharif season. In order to bring pressure on the government, the sangham planned Chalo Assembly on September 1. Prior to it, the sangham would launch a ‘jeep jatha’ on August 26 and stage protest demonstrations at all bank branches the following day.
Mr. Suryanarayana said that farmers in the district required 40,000 tonnes of urea and 30,000 tonnes of complex fertilizers but the quantity supplied through PACS was inadequate.
He said that 4.50 lakh farmers in the district own below five acres of land and they were all eligible under the loan waiver scheme. But, only 90,000 of them received the benefit. Those who repaid loans regularly were to receive Rs.5,000 each but not even lists of the beneficiaries were prepared so far.
