Staff Correspondent

Action plan to create awareness on welfare schemes soon

Workshop held for folk and theatre artistes

DHARWAD: The Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad, Darpan Jain, has said that art forms were effective tools for creating awareness among the public, especially residents of villages, about welfare schemes.

He was addressing a gathering at the valedictory ceremony of the Belgaum division-level weeklong training workshop for folk and theatre artistes, organised by the Information Department, here on Saturday.

The mentality of residents of villages deprived of facilities was different from that of city residents. And, activities that create awareness through entertainment would be more effective in rural areas, he said.

Mr. Jain watched the street play “Innadur tili tamma” aimed at creating awareness on the importance of organic farming, and said such programmes would make more impact on people in rural areas. Presiding over the function, Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat C. Shikha said lack of information among people in rural areas was a major hurdle in effective implementation of government welfare schemes. She said an action plan would be chalked out for Dharwad district to create awareness on such schemes.

Joint Director of the Information Department K.S. Bevinamarad spoke. As many as 70 artistes participated.
