PANAJI: The council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has decided to set up its chapter in Singapore. This will be the 21st chapter of the institute, abroad. “Chapters of the institute are set up to provide a forum for the members of the institute, either settled or working there, to interact among themselves, organise seminars and keep abreast of the developments in the fields of accounting, auditing and other allied areas globally, besides organising continuing education programmes (CEP) for members,” said Ved Jain, president of the ICAI, at a press conference at South Goa on Sunday. He was here to attend a three-day conference of the CEP organised by the CEP committee of the ICAI, in collaboration with the Goa branch of the Western India Regional Council of the ICAI. Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was the chief guest for the closing ceremony of the conference in South Goa on Sunday. Mr. Jain said the ICAI had envisaged setting up of an accountancy museum to commemorate the diamond jubilee year of the institute. “This will trace the history of the accountancy profession from ancient times and will comprise a rare collection of items including documents, photographs, paintings and memorabilia. This collection will be of historical value,” he added.
