Government has released Rs. 22 lakh for the bhavan D. Manjunath, H. Chandrappa elected to the post in Shimoga, Chikmagalur respectively Madikeri: T.P. Ramesh has been re-elected unanimously president of the Kodagu district Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP). Though Mr. Ramesh’s election was confirmed several days ago, after the two other candidates — Suleiman and B.M. Shamsuddin — withdrew from the contest, it was officially announced here on Sunday by the election officer and Madikeri tahsildar Yashoda. “My priority is to construct a Gadi Bhavan in Virajpet,” Mr. Ramesh told The Hindu after the official announcement of his election for the second three-year term. The State Government had released Rs. 22 lakh for the purpose, he said. The new board of the parishat would meet and take decisions to go on a membership drive in the district. Besides, construction of the Kodagu Kannada Sahitya Parishat building would be taken up near the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Circle in Madikeri, he said. He had written to the tahsildar to clear encroachments on the land identified for the building and hand it over to the parishat, Mr. Ramesh added. The former presidents of the Madikeri taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Virajpet taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat K.T. Baby Mathew and B.G. Raghunath Naik, respectively, and the former general secretary of the Kodagu district unit of the parishat B.M. Shamsuddin were present. Central parishatIn the voting held to the post of president of the Central Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Nallur Prasad got the highest of 44 votes, followed by Vidyashankar with 16 votes, C. Veeranna with 11 votes and Lakshman Rao with one vote. These votes will be delivered to the central office on Monday where counting of such votes from the entire State would be taken up to decide the winner. Re-electedShimoga Special Correspondent writes: D. Manjunath was re-elected president of the Shimoga district Kannada Sahitya Parishat on Sunday. In the elections held here and at all taluk headquarters in the district, Mr. Manjunath polled 706 votes. The other two contestants for the post — M.N. Sundar Raj and S.G. Pasha — polled 333 votes and 118 votes, respectively. Of the 1,763 voters, 1,188 exercised their franchise. In ChikmagalurCorrespondent writes from Chikmagalur H. Chandrappa was elected president of Chikmagalur district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat here on Sunday. He secured 778 of the 1,309 votes polled. The votes secured by the other contestants are: Lakshmi Shama Rao (156), Sundar Bangera (136), Manjappa (38) and Natashekar (195). There are 2,182 voters in the district for the parishat post elections. Polling was held in the seven taluk centres as well as in Kudremukh. Mr. Chandrappa, a retired teacher, has been actively involved in social and cultural activities in Tarikere taluk for the last 25 years. He presided over the ninth taluk-level Kannada Sahitya Sammelan in Tarikere last year and had served as president of the local chapter of the Lions Club for two years.
