NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Vijay Goel has charged the Delhi Government with trying to cheat several lakh residents of unauthorised colonies and those people living in the slum areas of the city. “The Government has been sleeping for nearly a decade and now just before the Assembly elections it is handing out slips of paper in place of provisional certificates that it had previously promised. We want to know if these slips are provisional certificates. The residents of these colonies have submitted their required documents but now the Government is finding faults with these documents,” said Mr. Goel. He is also trying to bring the representatives of the 1,500 unauthorised colonies together for a rally at the Ramlila Maidan on August 31. A large number of people living in illegal colonies and jhuggi jhonpri clusters are expected to participate in the rally. Mr. Goel also appealed to the RWA’s of unauthorised colonies to ask the people to participate in the rally. He charged that the people of JJ cluster and slums have also been misguided and cheated by the Delhi Government in the name of “Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojna”. “In reality, when the Government does not have a single flat ready, how will it give flats to all those people who have filled the forms.”
