‘Government committed to providing quality education at primary level’

Allocation for education hiked in State Budget

Yeddyurappa for uniform education policy

BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said the State Government is planning to introduce yoga at the primary level of education.

Addressing the valedictory function of a seminar on “Reforms in education” here on Sunday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said a committee would be set up to study the recommendations of the seminar.

Noting the significance of computer education at the primary school level, he said cyber centres would be opened in gram panchayats to enable people to avail themselves of the benefits of information technology.

The Government was committed to providing quality education at the primary school level, and the allocation for the education sector had been substantially hiked in the State Budget, he said.

He noted the contribution of Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda and Lala Lajpat Rai in the field of education. “Education is the manifestation of divinity that is in man,” he said and recalled the significance of the “Gurukula system” in imparting education to children.

Stressing the need for a uniform education policy, the Chief Minister said experts should give serious thought towards quality education at all levels. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, Minister for Higher Education Arvind Limbavali and Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda were present.

Dharmadhikari of Srikshetra Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade inaugurated the seminar on Friday.
